About this tool
What it does
A daily word puzzle. There is one secret five-letter English word each day, and you have six guesses to find it. After each guess the tiles change colour to show how close you are. Everyone gets the same word on the same day, so you can compare results with friends.
How to use it
- Type any five-letter English word with your keyboard or the on-screen keys, then press Enter.
- Green means the letter is in the word and in the right spot.
- Yellow means the letter is in the word but somewhere else.
- Grey means the letter is not in the word. The keyboard remembers the colours for you.
- Solve it in six guesses or fewer, then copy your result — it shows only colours, never the letters.
Limits and your data
- Guesses must be real words from the ENABLE word list; made-up words are not accepted.
- A repeated letter is only coloured as many times as it appears in the answer.
- The word changes at midnight in your own time zone.
- The word lists are built into the page, so the game works offline and nothing you type is sent anywhere. Today’s guesses and your results are stored only on this device.
Questions
Where do the words come from?
Answers are common English words from SCOWL (Spell Checker Oriented Word Lists, © Kevin Atkinson, used under its permissive licence) and guesses are checked against the public-domain ENABLE word list.
What’s a good first guess?
Words with common, different letters — such as CRANE, SLATE or AROSE — rule out or confirm many letters at once.
Is it the same as Wordle?
It follows the same well-known guessing rules, but it is an independent game with its own word list.
