This page shows the current temperature, how warm or cold it actually feels, humidity, wind speed and a seven-day outlook for one city. Pick the city once and SmartTools remembers it on this device, so the homepage greets you with your weather next time too.

Forecasts come from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway), whose Locationforecast service covers the whole world using the ECMWF global model, with its own higher-resolution model over the Nordic countries. The data is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence, which is why the credit appears under every reading.

“Feels like” is MET Norway’s apparent temperature: it combines air temperature with humidity and wind to estimate how the weather feels on your skin. On a humid day it can be several degrees higher than the thermometer reading.

Each day’s high and low come from the hourly forecast for the next two to three days, and from MET Norway’s six-hour highs and lows after that. Late in the evening, today’s figures cover only the hours that are left, and the page says so. Sunrise and sunset are calculated on your device from the date and the city’s position.

MET Norway updates its forecast several times a day. Our server keeps each forecast until MET Norway says a newer one may be available, then checks again, so the page always shows the latest issue without asking more often than MET Norway allows. The page says when the data was last updated. If you are offline or the service cannot be reached, you see the last saved reading clearly marked with its age rather than a blank card or an invented value.

Nothing is requested until you choose a city. Searching sends only the text you type to the SmartTools server, which looks it up in its own copy of the GeoNames place list. If you tap “Use my location”, your browser asks for permission first; the coordinates are rounded to two decimal places — roughly one kilometre — before they are sent, and our server names the nearest town. The forecast request to MET Norway comes from our server, so MET Norway never sees your browser. You can forget the saved city at any time from the My page.

No. These are model forecasts from open data. For cyclone, heatwave or flood warnings, follow your national meteorological department (in India, the IMD) and local authorities.

Apps use different models, update times and grid points. A reading for a city is an estimate for an area a few kilometres across, so a difference of a degree or two is normal.

No. Searching for your city works without any permission. Location access is only requested if you tap “Use my location”.

It was removed. The open air-quality data we used may not be used on a site that could carry advertising or paid features, and we would rather show nothing than use data outside its terms.

The last forecast you loaded is kept on your device and shown with its age when you are offline. New readings need a connection.
