A calm front page for the day. India headlines in English and Hindi from national newspapers and broadcasters, business and market news, what the world is reading on Wikipedia, events on this date in history, and the top technology and space stories. Every headline shows its publisher and time and opens the original article.
Where the India headlines come from
The GDELT Project monitors news published around the world and makes it searchable for free, including for commercial use. Twice an hour the ToolsDev server asks it for the newest stories published in India, in English and in Hindi, and keeps only those from a fixed list of national publishers — among them The Hindu, The Indian Express, Hindustan Times, The Times of India, NDTV, Mint, Business Standard, Dainik Bhaskar, Dainik Jagran, Amar Ujala and Aaj Tak. A story from any other website is not shown, however widely it is shared.
The Business tab is the same list narrowed to business papers such as The Economic Times, Mint, Business Standard, BusinessLine, Financial Express and Moneycontrol. When several papers carry the same wire story under the same headline, it appears once.
World, technology and space
World events come from Wikipedia’s “In the news” section, written and checked by volunteer editors, together with the day’s most-read articles and “On this day” — all through the Wikimedia Foundation’s official Feed API. Technology stories are the current front page of Hacker News, ranked by its community. Space stories come from the Spaceflight News API, which collects articles from NASA, ESA, SpaceNews and other publishers.
What ToolsDev does and doesn’t do
ToolsDev shows headlines, the publisher, the time and a link. It does not rewrite, summarise, rank by opinion or store articles, and it does not load publishers’ images or trackers — those would tell dozens of other websites that you visited. Every link opens in a new tab without sending the page you came from.
Questions
Why these publishers and not others?
A news search engine finds everything that calls itself news, including copied and misleading sites. Showing only established national newspapers and broadcasters, across the range of opinion, keeps the page trustworthy. If a publisher on the list stops meeting that standard, it can be switched off.
Is the news filtered or personalised?
No. Everyone sees the same lists, newest first, from the publishers named above. Nothing is chosen for you.
How current is it?
India headlines refresh every 30 minutes, world lists every 15. Each panel shows when it was last updated.
Why are there no pictures?
Pictures would load from each publisher’s own servers, telling them you visited. Headlines alone keep the page fast and private.
