This tool counts the words, characters, sentences and paragraphs in any text as you type, and estimates how long it takes to read. It counts words correctly in Hindi, Marathi and other scripts, not only English.

1. Paste or type your text into the box.
2. Watch the counts update as you write.
3. Use "Characters (no spaces)" for limits that ignore spaces, such as some application forms.
4. Check "As an SMS" before sending a long message: it shows how many parts it will be split into.
5. Look at "Most used words" to spot a word you have repeated too often.

• Reading time assumes about 200 words a minute; technical writing reads slower.
• Sentences follow the Unicode rules your browser uses: full stops, question and exclamation marks and the Hindi danda (।) end a sentence, a decimal point does not. An abbreviation followed by a capital letter, as in "Dr. Rao", can still add one.
• Characters are counted as you see them, so an emoji with a skin tone is one character. "JavaScript length" shows the code-unit count some systems use instead.
• The SMS count follows the GSM standard. Some phones and gateways add their own limits, and Indian commercial SMS also need an approved template.
• Your text is counted inside this page. It is not uploaded, saved or sent anywhere, and it disappears when you close the tab.
