Record your voice in the browser with pause and resume, a live level meter and as many takes as you like. Download each one, or as WAV. Nothing is uploaded.

Checking what this browser allows…
How is this calculated?
The browser’s MediaRecorder encodes the microphone’s sound as it comes in. WAV is made by decoding the take and writing it as 16-bit PCM at 48 kHz.Runs in your browser — nothing you enter leaves this device.
About this tool
What it does
Voice Recorder records sound from your microphone in the browser — a voice memo, a song idea, a practice take, a message to send. Press Record and allow the microphone when the browser asks; the time and the size of the recording so far count up, and a level meter shows how loud the sound is reaching the microphone, with a warning if it clips (too loud, so it will sound distorted). You can pause and resume as often as you like within one take. Each time you stop, the take is added to the list below, where you can play it back, download it in the format the browser recorded (WebM or Ogg with the Opus codec in Chrome, Edge and Firefox; MP4/M4A in Safari), or download it as a WAV file, which every phone, player and audio editor opens. Make as many takes as you need. Nothing is uploaded: the recording is made, kept and converted in this tab, and the page asks before you close it with takes you have not downloaded. Noise and echo removal are on by default, which suits speech; switch to raw sound for music.
How to use it
- Press Record and allow the microphone.
- Pause and Resume as needed; watch the level meter stay out of the red.
- Press Stop and keep. The take appears in the list.
- Play it back, then Download it, or Download as WAV.
Limits and your data
- Recordings are held in memory, so very long takes (hours) on a phone may run out of memory; several shorter takes are safer.
- The browser chooses the compressed format: WebM or Ogg (Opus) in most browsers, MP4 (AAC) in Safari. Some older players do not open WebM — use the WAV download for those.
- On a phone, recording may stop if you switch to another app or lock the screen; what was recorded until then is kept.
- MP3 is not offered, because browsers have no MP3 encoder built in.
- The microphone is used only while recording or while you have it turned on, and the recordings stay in this tab. Nothing is sent anywhere or kept after you close the page — download what you want to keep.
Questions
Is my recording uploaded?
No. It is recorded and kept in this browser tab only. Closing the tab deletes it, so download what you want to keep.
Why is my recording a WebM file?
That is what Chrome, Edge and Firefox record: Opus audio in a WebM file, small and good quality. If an app will not open it, use Download as WAV.
How do I record better sound?
Keep the microphone a hand’s width or two from your mouth, in a quiet room with soft furnishings. Keep the meter mostly in the middle; red means clipping.
Can I record music or an instrument?
Yes. Turn on Raw sound so the browser does not treat the music as noise or echo and remove part of it.
