Video Toolkit — Details, Frames, Contact Sheet and Sound

Open a video once and do everything with it: see its codec and details, save frames as images, make a contact sheet, and save its sound as WAV. Never uploaded.

Drag a file here, paste it, or choose one. Up to 4000 MB. It stays on your device.

  • Details — Codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, tracks and when it was recorded.
  • Frames — Any frame as a JPG or PNG, or many in one ZIP.
  • Contact sheet — A grid of frames with their times, as one image.
  • Sound — The soundtrack as a WAV file.

The video is opened in this tab and never uploaded.

How is this calculated?
Details are read from the file’s own index (the MP4 and MOV “moov” box) without decoding the video. Frames are drawn from the browser’s player at the times chosen. Sound is decoded by the browser and written as 16-bit PCM.

Runs in your browser — nothing you enter leaves this device.

About this tool

What it does

Video Toolkit opens a video once and puts everything you can do with it in one place, so you do not choose the same file on four pages. Drop in an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV from your phone, camera or screen recorder, and switch between four panels. Details reads what the file says about itself: the container and brand, its length and overall bitrate, and for every track its codec (H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1, AAC, Opus …), the picture size and aspect ratio, the frame rate and frame count, any rotation, the audio sample rate and channels, the language, and the date the camera wrote — useful before uploading a video somewhere that has limits, or to see why one will not play. Frames saves the frame on screen as a JPG or PNG, or many at once — one every few seconds, or a number spread evenly — in a single ZIP, at full size or smaller. Contact sheet lays frames out in a grid with the time on each and the file’s details at the top, as one image up to 4K wide: a quick way to show what a long video holds, or to pick a thumbnail. Sound saves the soundtrack as a WAV file, decoded by the browser at 48 kHz and 16 bits, as recorded or mixed down to mono — for an edit, a transcript or the music. The single pages for details, frames and contact sheets use exactly the same parts, so they behave the same.

How to use it
  1. Choose or drop a video.
  2. Pick Details, Frames, Contact sheet or Sound.
  3. Choose the options for that panel and save the file it makes.
  4. Switch panels for the same video, or choose another.
Limits and your data
  • Frames, contact sheets and sound need a video this browser can play: H.265/HEVC, ProRes, AC-3 or DTS may not be supported, depending on the browser and system. Details still read MP4 and MOV files.
  • Codec and per-track details are read from MP4 and MOV; for WebM and MKV the page shows what the browser reports.
  • Very long videos make large WAV files (about 11 MB a minute in stereo) and may be too long to decode at once in a tab.
  • This is not a video editor: it does not cut, join, compress or convert video.
  • The video is opened in this tab and never uploaded; the frames, sheets and sound files are made here and saved straight to your device.

Questions

How do I extract the audio from a video?

Open the video, choose Sound and press Save the sound as WAV. The soundtrack is decoded in your browser and saved as a WAV file; nothing is uploaded.

Can I save a frame from a video as a picture?

Yes: in Frames, move to the moment you want and save it as JPG or PNG, or save many frames at once in a ZIP.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in this browser tab, and the files you save are made on your device.

Why does it say the video cannot be played?

The browser lacks the codec, which is common with H.265/HEVC from phones and ProRes from cameras. Details still work; for frames and sound, try another browser or convert the video to H.264 first.
