Video Frame Extractor

Save any frame of a video as a JPG or PNG image, or one every few seconds or a number spread evenly, in one ZIP. Full size or smaller. Nothing is uploaded.

Drag a file here, paste it, or choose one. Up to 4000 MB. It stays on your device.

The video is opened in this tab and never uploaded. Frames are saved as JPEG or PNG images.

How is this calculated?
The video is moved to each time and the decoded frame drawn to a canvas at its own size (or scaled down to the chosen width, keeping its shape), then saved as JPEG (quality 92%) or PNG.

Runs in your browser — nothing you enter leaves this device.

About this tool

What it does

Video Frame Extractor saves frames of a video as images. To get one still — a moment from a family video, a slide from a recorded talk, a frame for a thumbnail — play or drag the video to the moment, pause, and press Save this frame: the frame on screen is saved as a JPEG or PNG at the video’s full size, or smaller if you choose. To get many, take one every few seconds (every 1 s, every 0.5 s, every 10 s) or a set number spread evenly through the video, and they are saved together in one ZIP file, each named in order with its time, such as clip-frame-007-0m05.250s.jpg. JPEG files are small and fine for viewing and sharing; PNG is exact, with no compression loss, for editing or analysis, and larger. Everything happens in the browser: the video is decoded by the browser’s own player, so any video your browser plays can be used, and nothing is uploaded.

How to use it
  1. Choose or drop a video.
  2. For one frame: pause on the moment and press Save this frame.
  3. For many: choose every few seconds or a number of frames, then Extract frames as ZIP.
  4. Pick JPEG or PNG and the size before saving.
Limits and your data
  • At most 300 JPEG or 100 PNG frames in one ZIP, because each is held in memory until the ZIP is written.
  • Only videos your browser can play can be read: H.265/HEVC and ProRes often cannot be in Chrome or Firefox.
  • A frame is the one the browser shows at that time; to the exact frame number needs a frame-accurate editor.
  • The video is opened and decoded in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded or kept.
