About this tool

What it does

Signature Resizer prepares your signature for an online form — a job, exam, bank or government application that asks you to upload it as a picture of a set width and height and under a file size, such as 20 KB. Sign on plain white paper, photograph or scan it, and add it here. Frame the signature tightly with the frame, type the width and height in pixels and the largest file size your form gives, and the signature is made at exactly that size as a JPEG within the limit. Make the paper white turns the grey of shadows and paper texture into clean white while the ink keeps its own tone, which is what forms show best and what makes small files possible. The file is opened again and checked before it is offered.

How to use it
  1. Sign in dark ink on plain white paper; photograph it from above in good light, or scan it.
  2. Add the picture, and drag the frame tightly around the signature.
  3. Type the width and height in pixels, and the largest file size in KB, exactly as your form states them.
  4. Leave Make the paper white ticked unless your form wants the paper as it is.
  5. Press Make it, check the size shown, and download the signature.
Limits and your data
  • Forms differ in the sizes they ask for, and change them; no sizes are filled in for you. Use the ones in your form's own instructions.
  • If the signature's frame and the size asked for have different shapes, the signature is stretched to fit; frame it to roughly the same shape to avoid that.
  • Making the paper white works on light paper with dark ink. Blue or very light ink on coloured paper may lose parts; untick it then.
  • This makes a picture of a signature for upload. It is not a digital signature: to sign a PDF with a certificate, use Digitally Sign PDF.
  • Your signature is processed in this browser tab and never uploaded to ToolsDev or anyone else; nothing is kept after you close the tab. A signature is personal: it stays on your device.

Questions

My form says 140 × 60 pixels and 10 to 20 KB. What do I type?

Width 140, height 60 and 20 KB. A file can be well under the lower limit at such a small size; if the form requires at least 10 KB, a larger width and height within its rules, or unticking Make the paper white, gives a larger file.

Why does my signature look grey or blurred?

Usually poor light or a shadow. Photograph it in daylight from directly above, filling most of the frame, and keep Make the paper white on.

Which format do forms want?

Almost always JPEG (JPG), which this saves. If your form asks for PNG, convert the result in Image Converter.
