Sign PDF

Sign PDF puts your signature on a PDF: draw it with a mouse, a finger or a pen, or type your name and it is set in an italic face. It is placed low on the right of the page you are on; drag it where it belongs and resize it from its corner. Add today's date beside it, sign other pages with the same signature, and download the signed copy. The file is opened again and checked before it is offered: every page must carry what you placed on it.

1. Choose the PDF to sign, or drop it on the page. Move to the page that needs your signature with Page Up and Page Down, or the strip of pages.
2. Press Sign. Draw your signature in the box — Undo stroke and Clear help — or choose Type and enter your name. Pick black or blue ink.
3. Press Place on the page, then drag the signature onto the line and resize it from the corner square.
4. Add today's date if the document asks for it, and drag it into place.
5. On other pages, press Place the same signature here.
6. Press Download PDF to save the signed copy.

• This is a visual signature — a picture of your signature on the page, the same as signing a printout and scanning it. It is not a digital signature: it carries no certificate, does not prove who signed, and does not show whether the file was changed afterwards. When a document must be signed with a digital signature (for example with a DSC or Aadhaar eSign), use a service that provides one.
• Whether a visual signature is accepted is up to whoever asked for it. Many forms, letters and agreements accept one; some institutions require a digital signature or an original on paper.
• A typed signature in Latin letters is set in Times Italic; one in Hindi, Tamil or another Indian script is set in Noto Sans, carried inside the file. Draw your signature to sign in any other script.
• A digital signature already in the PDF is no longer valid in the signed copy: such a signature covers the exact file that was signed, and any new file breaks it.
• Files up to 300 MB each, 1 GB and 5,000 pages in all. A password-protected PDF asks for its password when added.
• Your PDF and your signature stay in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded to ToolsDev or anyone else, and your signature is not saved anywhere — it is forgotten when you close the page, so nobody using this browser later can reuse it. The page downloads its own code, and pdf.js's fonts and image decoders when a page needs them, from toolsdev.in — none of those requests carries your document or your signature.

It depends on the document and on who receives it. A visual signature is widely used for everyday letters and forms, but it is not a digital signature in the legal sense of India's IT Act, which requires a certificate from a licensed authority. If in doubt, ask whoever needs the signed document.
