About this tool

What it does

Rotate PDF turns pages a quarter turn at a time: left, right or upside down. Rotate one page, a selection, or the whole file — useful for scanned pages that came out sideways, or a landscape table inside a portrait report. Rotation is stored as a setting on each page, the way PDF readers expect, so nothing is redrawn and nothing loses quality. You see each change on the page pictures straight away.

How to use it
  1. Choose a PDF, or drop it on the page.
  2. Select the pages to turn; with none selected, the Rotate panel turns every page.
  3. Press Left, Right or 180°, or press R to turn the selected pages right and Shift+R to turn them left.
  4. Reset puts the selected pages back as they were in the original.
  5. Press Download PDF to save the turned file.
Limits and your data
  • Pages turn in steps of 90 degrees, as the PDF format allows. Straightening a slightly crooked scan needs the page image redrawn, which this tool does not do.
  • Files up to 300 MB each, 1 GB and 5,000 pages in all. A password-protected PDF asks for its password when added.
  • Pages are copied as they are, which keeps their quality, but what belongs to the whole document rather than to a page is not carried over: bookmarks, the document outline, file attachments and accessibility tags. Links between pages may stop working. The title of the first file is kept.
  • Fillable form fields keep their appearance but may no longer be fillable, and any digital signature in the original is no longer valid in the new file — a signature covers the exact file that was signed.
  • Your PDFs are read and written in this browser tab. They are not uploaded to ToolsDev or anyone else, and nothing is saved: closing the tab ends the session, so download what you want to keep (the page asks before you leave with work not downloaded). The page downloads its own code, and pdf.js's fonts and image decoders when a page needs them, from toolsdev.in — none of those requests carries your document.

Questions

Does rotating reduce quality?

No. The page's content is not touched; the page simply carries a different rotation setting, which every PDF reader applies when it shows or prints the page.

Can I rotate just one page?

Yes. Click the page to select only it, then rotate. Open it large with Enter or a double-click to check it, and use the rotate buttons there.

The pages look right here but not in my reader. Why?

The download sets the rotation the PDF standard defines, which Adobe Reader, Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Preview and phone readers all follow. If an older reader ignores it, the file itself is still correct; try another reader.

What does the small ↻ label on a page mean?

It shows how far you have turned that page from how it was in the original file, so you can see which pages you changed.

Can I rotate several files at once?

Add them all: they appear in one grid. Select the pages to turn across all of them, rotate, then download them as one merged file, or use Split to get them back as separate files.
