Rotate and Flip Image
Turn a picture a quarter at a time, mirror it, or flip it upside down, and save it standing the right way.
Drop pictures here, or choose them. JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP; HEIC and AVIF where your browser opens them.
Rotate
Line up a horizon or a wall with the picture's edge. The corners the turn leaves empty are cut away: the result is the largest upright rectangle inside it.
Photos are first stood upright by their own orientation, as your phone shows them.

About this tool
What it does
Rotate and Flip Image turns a picture a quarter turn left or right, straightens a slightly tilted one, mirrors it left to right, or flips it upside down, and saves it that way so it shows correctly everywhere. A common reason: a phone photo that looks right on the phone but arrives sideways in an email, a form or an old program. Phones often save the picture sideways and add a note — the EXIF orientation — saying how to turn it; programs that ignore the note show it sideways. This tool first stands the photo upright by that note, then applies your turns, and saves the pixels themselves the right way round, with no note needed. The preview shows the result before you save, and the saved file is opened again and checked.
How to use it
- Choose a picture, or drop it on the page. It is shown as your phone shows it.
- Press Left or Right to turn it a quarter, Mirror to flip it left to right, or Upside down to flip it top to bottom.
- For a tilted photo, move Straighten until a horizon or a wall lines up with the edge; the empty corners are cut away.
- Check the preview; the line under the buttons says what has been done.
- Choose the format to save in, or keep the same one.
- Press Make it and download.
Limits and your data
- Straightening turns by up to 15° either way and cuts the picture to the largest upright rectangle inside it, so the more it is turned, the more of the edges is lost — about 5% of the width and 11% of the height at 5° for a 4:3 landscape photo.
- The turned picture is saved afresh — in JPEG at 92% quality — so the camera, time and location details of the original are not carried over.
- One picture is turned at a time; each keeps its own turn while you switch between them.
- Your pictures are turned in this browser tab and never uploaded to ToolsDev or anyone else; nothing is kept after you close the tab. The page downloads only its own code.
Questions
Why does my photo show sideways on some sites but not on my phone?
The phone saved it sideways with a note saying to turn it, and those sites ignore the note. Open it here and press Make it without turning it at all: the saved file is upright in its pixels, so every site shows it the right way.
What is the difference between Mirror and Upside down?
Mirror swaps left and right, as a mirror does — useful for selfies that show text backwards. Upside down swaps top and bottom without swapping left and right.
Does rotating lose quality?
The turn itself loses nothing, but the picture is saved again. Saving as PNG loses nothing at all; JPEG at 92% is very close to the original.
