Remove Background from a Photo
Cut a person out of a photo: the background made transparent, a plain colour such as white, or blurred — by a model that runs in your browser.
Drop pictures here, or choose them. JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF and SVG; HEIC and AVIF where your browser opens them.

About this tool
What it does
Remove Background cuts a person out of a photo and fills everything else: with nothing, for a transparent PNG to place on a slide, a card or a poster; with a plain colour, such as the white many forms ask for; or with a blurred copy of the background, the soft look of a portrait lens. A model that finds people runs in this browser tab. It looks at every pixel of your photo and decides how likely it is to be part of the person, so the edge of hair and shoulders fades rather than ending in hard steps. You see the result straight away, can let the edge out or pull it in, and save the photo at its full size. Nothing about the picture leaves your device.
How to use it
- Choose a photo of a person, or drop it on the page.
- Press Find the person. The first time, the model is downloaded from toolsdev.in — the button says how much — and kept for next time.
- Choose what the background becomes: nothing (transparent), a colour, or blurred.
- Check the edge at 100% (press 1). Move Edge to pull it in towards the person or let it out.
- Crop, turn or adjust the photo with the other tasks if you like; the cut-out stays in place.
- Press Make it and download. With several photos, The same for all does each one.
Limits and your data
- The model finds people — one or several — not objects, products or pets. A photo with no person in it is said to have none, and nothing is changed.
- It works on a picture at most 1,024 pixels across and draws its answer at the photo’s full size, so fine strands of hair and the space between fingers are softened rather than traced one by one. Check them before you use the photo.
- Transparency needs PNG, WebP or another format that keeps it: if JPEG is chosen, the photo is saved as PNG instead, and the result says so.
- Turning the photo a quarter, mirroring it or straightening it afterwards removes the cut-out, because the person has moved under it. Undo brings it back, or press Find the person again.
- The photo is read, cut out and saved in this browser tab and never uploaded to ToolsDev or anyone else. The only download is the model itself, from toolsdev.in, the first time you use it; after that it works offline. Nothing is kept after you close the tab.
Questions
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The model runs in your browser, on your device. The only thing downloaded is the model itself, from toolsdev.in, the first time; your photo stays in the tab.
Can I make a passport photo with a white background?
Yes: choose a colour and keep white, or use Passport Photo, which has the same button beside the frame. Whether a photo is accepted is decided by the office that receives it; a background that was changed is not allowed by every country, so read your form’s rules first.
Why are there bits of background left near the hair or ears?
That is where the model is least sure. Move Edge towards tighter to pull the edge in. A photo taken against a plain, light wall, with the person well lit, gives the cleanest result.
Does it work for products or pets?
No — this model is made to find people. It says so when it finds none rather than guessing at an edge.
How big is the download?
About 3.4 MB, once. After that the model is kept by your browser and works without a connection.
