About this tool

What it does

This tool makes rows of made-up data for testing an app, filling a demo, or seeding a database. You list the fields you want — a row number, a name, an email address, a price, a date, one of a list of statuses — and it writes as many rows as you ask for, up to 10,000, as JSON, CSV, SQL INSERT statements or NDJSON (one JSON object per line). Each row hangs together: the email address is made from the name in the same row, and the state matches the city. Everything comes from a seed, so the same fields and seed always give exactly the same rows — handy for a test fixture you want to regenerate later, or for sharing data with a colleague by telling them the seed.

How to use it

Start from one of the presets — Users, Orders or Products — or edit the fields directly.
For each field, set a name and a kind. Some kinds have settings: a range for numbers and dates, decimal places, a list of choices, or the chance of true.
Set “Empty %” on any field that should sometimes be null, to test how your code handles missing values.
Choose how many rows and the format. For SQL, give the table name.
Check the preview, then copy or download the data. Change the seed, or press the refresh button beside it, for a different set.

Limits and your data

Up to 10,000 rows and 30 fields at a time. For more, generate several sets with different seeds.
This is test data, not real data. Email addresses use example.com, example.org and example.net, domains reserved so that no mail to them can reach anyone. Mobile numbers are only shaped like Indian ones (+91, starting 6 to 9) and may belong to a real person, so never send messages or calls to them.
Randomness comes from a seeded generator, not a secure one. Do not use these UUIDs or values as passwords, tokens or anything secret.
Decimals are exact: a price range of 99 to 24999.99 with two places gives values such as 1520.45, never 1520.4500000001. Whole numbers can have up to 15 digits.
SQL uses standard syntax: TRUE and FALSE, and names quoted with double quotes when they contain spaces or symbols. MySQL needs ANSI_QUOTES for quoted names; plain names work everywhere.
Nothing is uploaded: the rows are made in this page, and the fields you set up are not saved anywhere.

Questions

Why do I get the same data every time?

Because the seed is the same. That is deliberate: a test that uses generated data should fail or pass the same way each run. Type a different seed, or press the refresh button beside it, for new rows.

Will changing one field change all the others?

Switching nulls on or off in one field leaves the other fields’ values where they were. Adding, removing or reordering fields, or changing a field’s kind, draws the rows afresh.

How do I load the SQL into my database?

Create the table first, with columns named like your fields, then run the INSERT statements. Rows are grouped 500 to a statement, which every major database accepts. The SQL Playground on this site can run them straight away if you paste a CREATE TABLE before them.

Can I get the data in a different shape, such as nested JSON?

Rows are flat, one value per field, which is what tables and CSV need. For nested JSON, generate the flat rows and reshape them, or describe the shape you want with the JSON Schema Generator.
