Jokes

Clean jokes, puns and dad jokes in six languages — the punchline is one tap away.

Loading jokes

Family-friendly only: JokeAPI is asked in safe mode with every sensitive category blocked, each joke is checked again on our server, and our editors can remove any joke by hand.

Data from JokeAPI and icanhazdadjoke.

What leaves your device

Nothing about you — one request to the SmartTools server for the language you picked. That server collects the jokes from JokeAPI and icanhazdadjoke itself, a few times a day, so neither ever sees your browser, and adds the jokes written for SmartTools. Jokes you save stay on this device.

About this page

What it shows

A clean joke whenever you want one. Pick a kind — programming, puns, everyday, spooky, Christmas or dad jokes — and tap “Next joke”. Two-part jokes keep the punchline back until you ask for it. You can copy a joke, share a link that opens on it, or save it to this device to find again later. English is the default; Hindi appears once jokes written for SmartTools are published, and German, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Czech when the source has jokes in them.

Where the jokes come from

Two free, public sources. JokeAPI is an open-source joke collection (MIT licence) with jokes in six languages, each tagged by its maintainers with a category and with flags for anything that is not suitable for everyone. icanhazdadjoke is a collection of groan-worthy dad jokes in English, which its maintainers keep family-friendly.

The SmartTools server reads both every six hours and keeps what it collects, so the collection grows over time and this page is a single request. Your browser never contacts either source, and neither learns that you visited.

How jokes are kept clean

JokeAPI is always asked in its safe mode, only for the family categories — never its “Dark” category — and with every sensitive flag blocked: adult, religious, political, racist, sexist and explicit. Our server then checks each joke again: one that is not marked safe, carries any flag, sits in another category or is unusually long is dropped before anyone sees it.

Those checks follow the sources’ own labels, and labels can be wrong. So our editors can also hide any single joke by hand, and a hidden joke stays hidden even if a source sends it again.

Hindi jokes

Neither source has jokes in Hindi or other Indian languages, and we will not machine-translate humour: a translated pun is rarely a pun. Hindi jokes here are written for SmartTools, and each shows who wrote it. The language menu lists only the languages that actually have jokes, so Hindi appears there once some are published.

Saving and sharing

Saved jokes are kept in this browser only, alongside your other SmartTools data, so they appear in “Export my data” and are removed by “Delete everything” on the Your data page. A shared link carries only the joke’s id and language — nothing about you.

Picking the next joke happens on your device: the whole collection for a language arrives at once and is shuffled here, so every joke comes up once before any repeats, and it keeps working if your connection drops.

Questions

Are these jokes safe for children?

They are meant to be. Every joke passes JokeAPI’s safe mode and our own checks, and editors remove anything that slips through. Humour is personal, though — read a few first if you are choosing jokes for a class.

Why did I see the same joke again?

Only after every joke in that category has come up once. The page then shuffles again and says so.

Can I suggest a joke?

Not yet. Every joke comes from one of the two sources credited on this page, and we do not publish jokes we cannot credit.

Does this work offline?

Once the jokes for a language have loaded, yes — they are kept on this device and the next joke needs no connection.
