About this tool

What it does

This calculator adds GST to a pre-tax price, or works backwards from a GST-inclusive price to the amount before tax. It shows how the tax divides between the Centre and the State: CGST and SGST for a sale within one state, or IGST for a sale between states.

How to use it
  1. Choose whether the amount you have is before GST (add) or already includes it (remove).
  2. Enter the amount.
  3. Pick a rate, or type a different one if your item is taxed at another rate.
  4. Choose within-state or between-states to see the CGST and SGST, or IGST, split.
  5. Copy the breakdown to paste into an invoice or message.
Limits and your data
  • The rate buttons reflect the common slabs in force since 22 September 2025. The rate for a particular item depends on its HSN or SAC code — check it before you invoice.
  • Compensation cess, where it applies to some goods, is not included.
  • Amounts are rounded to the paisa. Invoicing software may round per line item, so totals on a long invoice can differ by a paisa or two.
  • Tax rules change with GST Council decisions and the Union Budget. Verify rates on the official CBIC GST rate finder.
  • The amounts are calculated on this page only. Nothing is saved, put in the address bar or sent anywhere.

Questions

How do I remove GST from a price?

Choose "Remove GST", enter the price that includes tax, and pick the rate. For 18%, the net amount is the price × 100 ÷ 118 — not the price minus 18%, which is a common mistake.

When is it CGST and SGST, and when is it IGST?

A sale where the supplier and the place of supply are in the same state carries CGST and SGST, each half of the rate. A sale to another state, or an import, carries IGST at the full rate.

What are the GST rates now?

Since 22 September 2025 most goods and services fall under 5% or 18%, with 40% for certain goods such as tobacco products, and special low rates like 3% for gold and 0.25% for rough diamonds. Many essentials are exempt.

Why is subtracting 18% from a GST-inclusive price wrong?

The 18% was added to the net amount, not to the final price. Taking 18% off ₹1,180 gives ₹967.60, but the correct net amount is ₹1,000.
