About this tool

What it does

Menu Card Maker lays out a menu for a restaurant, café, dhaba, canteen or home kitchen. Type each dish with its price, a section such as Starters or Main course, and a line of description if you like; dishes are grouped under their sections in the order you first use them, with a dotted line to the price. Mark each dish vegetarian or non-vegetarian and the menu shows the signs Indian diners know — a green filled circle in a green-outlined square, and a brown filled triangle in a brown-outlined square, as the FSSAI’s Labelling and Display Regulations, 2020 draw them — with a key at the foot that lists only the marks you used. Prices are kept in whole paise, so ₹220.50 prints as ₹220.50 and never as a rounding error. Add a footnote for taxes, service charge or allergens, choose one of six templates, a colour and A4 or Letter, then print it or save it as a PDF to share on WhatsApp or print at a shop.

How to use it
  1. Type the restaurant’s name, and a tagline and address if you want them.
  2. Add dishes with a price and section; a new dish keeps the last one’s section and mark.
  3. Mark dishes vegetarian or non-vegetarian, or leave them unmarked.
  4. Add a footnote for taxes or allergens, then fix anything listed above the preview.
  5. Print or save as PDF; save a draft to change prices later.
Limits and your data
  • Prices are in rupees with at most two decimals; there is no second currency.
  • There are no photos of dishes, and no QR code — the QR Code Generator makes one for a link to this PDF.
  • The page checks that marked menus mark every dish; it cannot know whether a dish really is vegetarian.
  • What a menu must show by law (for example calorie values for larger chains) depends on your licence: check FSSAI’s rules for your business.
  • Everything stays in this browser; nothing is uploaded. Drafts are kept only when you press Save draft, on this device, and are in Export my data.

Questions

What do the green and brown marks mean?

Green, a filled circle in a square: vegetarian. Brown, a filled triangle in a square: non-vegetarian. These are the symbols of the FSSAI (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020; the older brown circle for non-vegetarian food was replaced by the triangle.

How do I mark egg dishes?

Under the 2020 regulations a food with egg as its only non-vegetarian ingredient still carries the non-vegetarian mark; you can add “contains egg” to the dish’s description.

Should I write GST on the menu?

Many restaurants add a footnote such as “Prices are inclusive of GST” or “GST extra”. Write what is true for your business in the footnote.

Can I print it in two columns?

Not yet — the menu prints in one column, a section at a time, and a long menu flows onto a second page.
