How is this calculated?
Taxable value = quantity × rate. Same state: CGST = SGST = taxable × (GST rate ÷ 2), each rounded to the paise. Different states: IGST = taxable × GST rate. Total = taxable + tax, optionally rounded to the nearest rupee.

About this tool

What it does

GST Invoice Generator makes a tax invoice for a GST-registered business, or a bill of supply when no GST is charged, laid out as a printed page you can print or save as a PDF. Fill in your business and the buyer, the invoice number and date, and the items with their HSN or SAC codes, quantities, rates and GST rates. The page decides whether the tax is CGST plus SGST (supplier and place of supply in the same state) or IGST (different states), and works every amount out in whole paise: each line’s taxable value, its tax at half the rate twice or the full rate once, rounded half up to the paise, then the totals, an optional round-off to the nearest rupee, a tax summary by rate, and the total in words in lakh and crore. A checklist beside the preview names anything rule 46 of the CGST Rules asks for that is still missing, such as a GSTIN, the place of supply, or an invoice number longer than 16 characters.

How to use it
  1. Choose Tax invoice or Bill of supply, and set the invoice number and date.
  2. Fill in your business and the buyer, with GSTINs and states, and check the place of supply.
  3. Add the items with HSN/SAC, quantity, unit, rate and GST rate.
  4. Read the checklist, pick a template and paper size, then Print or save as PDF. Save a draft if you want to come back to it.
Limits and your data
  • The page lays out and adds up an invoice; it does not file anything. Report invoices in your GST returns as usual, and generate an e-invoice (IRN and QR code) on the government portal if your turnover requires e-invoicing.
  • You choose each item’s GST rate. Rates depend on the HSN or SAC code and change by notification, so check the current rate for what you sell.
  • Discounts, cess, reverse charge and exports (with or without payment of IGST) need wording or columns this page does not add; type them in the notes when they apply.
  • Invoice numbers are yours to keep unique and consecutive within a financial year; the page does not track numbers between invoices.
  • Saving as PDF goes through the browser’s print dialog: choose “Save as PDF” as the printer.
  • The invoice is made in your browser; no customer, price or GSTIN is sent anywhere. A draft is kept on this device only when you press Save draft, and can be deleted from the drafts list or with Delete everything on Your data.

Questions

When is it CGST and SGST, and when IGST?

Within one state — your registration and the place of supply in the same state — tax is split equally into CGST and SGST (UTGST in a union territory). Between states it is IGST at the full rate.

What is a bill of supply?

The document issued instead of a tax invoice when no GST is charged, such as by a composition taxpayer or for exempt goods and services. Choose Bill of supply and the GST columns disappear.

How long can an invoice number be?

Up to 16 characters, using letters, numbers, hyphens and slashes, unique for the financial year — for example INV/2026-27/001.

Why are CGST and SGST rounded separately?

Each is a tax of its own at half the rate. Rounding each to the paise keeps them equal and makes the lines add up to the totals exactly.
