What it does
Area Converter converts floor and land areas between square feet, square metres, square yards (gaj), acres, hectares, cents and guntha, as well as square centimetres, square inches, square kilometres and square miles. It is built for the questions that come up when buying a flat or a plot in India: a builder quotes carpet area in square feet while the registration papers give square metres, a plot is sold in gaj, farmland is measured in acres or hectares, and in Kerala and Tamil Nadu in cents, in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana in guntha. Every unit comes from an exact definition — a foot is exactly 0.3048 metres, so a square foot is exactly 0.09290304 square metres, and an acre is exactly 43,560 square feet — and the arithmetic is decimal, so results are exact to the digits shown.

Limits and your data
- Bigha, biswa, kanal, marla and ground vary from state to state, and sometimes district to district, so they are not included. Ask the local land records office for the value used in your area.
- Carpet, built-up and super built-up areas of a flat are different figures; the converter changes units, not which area is meant. RERA requires carpet area in sale agreements.
- Gaj is treated as a square yard, its usual meaning for plots.
