- Starts with a full tank and never plans to use the last 15%. Real economy falls with speed, load, hills and the AC, so leave margin.
- Fuel and charging prices change daily and by state: enter the price where you will fill up.
Trip
How is this calculated?
Fuel = distance ÷ km per litre (EV: distance × Wh per km ÷ 1000). Range = tank × (1 − reserve) × km per litre. A stop is placed wherever the running distance passes another full range. Days = driving hours ÷ hours a day, rounded up.Runs in your browser — nothing you enter leaves this device.
About this tool
What it does
Road Trip Planner works out a drive from start to finish. List the legs — Bengaluru to Mysuru, Mysuru to Madikeri, and on — with each distance in kilometres and any tolls, and tick “Drive back the same way” for a return trip. Choose the vehicle: petrol or diesel with its economy in km per litre, litres per 100 km or miles per gallon and its tank size; CNG in km per kg with its cylinder; or an electric car by its use in Wh per km (from the trip computer) and its usable battery. Set how much to keep in reserve, and the page works out the range on a full tank or charge, the fuel, gas or energy the trip will use, how many times you will need to refuel or charge, and on which leg the range runs out, so you know where to plan the stop. With your average speed and the most hours you want to drive in a day, it gives the driving time for each leg and for the trip, and the number of days on the road. Add the price where you will fill up, the nights away with rooms and the room rate, food per person per day and anything else, and it totals the trip — fuel or charging, tolls, stays, food and other costs — and each person’s share. Everything is in whole paise, so the share adds up exactly. The trip is kept on this device as you type, so you can plan over several evenings and come back on the day.
How to use it
- Add each leg with its distance and any tolls; tick the return trip if you drive back.
- Choose petrol or diesel, CNG or electric, and enter the economy, tank or battery and price.
- Set your average speed and the most hours a day you want to drive.
- Add people, nights, rooms and food; read the total and each share.
Limits and your data
- Distances are yours to enter, from a map app or the road signs: the page does not route or look up distances, tolls or prices.
- Real economy is lower at high speed, with the AC on, uphill and fully loaded; keep a reserve.
- Charging stops assume a full charge each time; fast chargers usually stop at 80%, so plan more stops on an EV.
- Average speed covers short breaks; long stops for meals or sightseeing add time.
- The plan is worked out in your browser and kept only on this device. Nothing is uploaded, and no map service is used.
Questions
How do I calculate the fuel cost of a road trip?
Add the legs and the vehicle’s economy, and enter the fuel price. The litres are the distance divided by km per litre; the cost is litres times the price.
How many times will I need to refuel?
Enter the tank size and a reserve. The page divides the trip by the range on a full tank above the reserve and shows the leg where each stop falls.
Can I plan an electric car road trip?
Yes: choose Electric and enter its use in Wh per km from the trip computer and its usable battery. Fast chargers often stop at 80%, so allow more stops than shown.
How is the cost split between people?
The total is divided equally to the paisa; when it does not divide exactly, the share shown is rounded up by a paisa so nobody is short.
