CGPA Calculator
Calculate your CGPA from each semester’s SGPA, weighted by credits as universities do, and the SGPA you need next semester to reach a target CGPA.
CGPA
To reach 8.5 after the next 24 credits you need an SGPA of 9.28.
- CGPA = Σ(SGPA × credits) ÷ Σ credits. Rounded half up to two decimals.
Semesters
How is this calculated?
CGPA = Σ(SGPA × semester credits) ÷ Σ semester credits. SGPA needed next = (target × (credits so far + next credits) − Σ(SGPA × credits)) ÷ next credits.Runs in your browser — nothing you enter leaves this device.
About this tool
What it does
CGPA Calculator combines your semester SGPAs into a cumulative grade point average. When you give each semester’s credits it weights them the way universities following the UGC Choice Based Credit System do: each SGPA is multiplied by that semester’s credits, the products are added, and the sum is divided by the total credits. A heavy semester of 26 credits therefore counts for more than a light one of 18. If you do not know the credits, leave them all blank and it takes a plain average of the SGPAs, and says so — that is close when semesters carry similar credits, but it is not the official figure. Once there is a weighted CGPA, it also answers the question most students actually have: what SGPA do I need next semester to reach a target CGPA? Enter the target and the next semester’s credits, and it works the number out, or tells you that the target is above 10 and out of reach in one semester. All the arithmetic is done in whole tenths and hundredths, so the result is exact before the one final rounding.
How to use it
- Enter each semester’s SGPA from your grade cards.
- Enter each semester’s total credits, or leave every credit box blank for a plain average.
- Read the CGPA.
- Optionally enter a target CGPA and next semester’s credits to see the SGPA needed.
Limits and your data
- If some semesters have credits and others do not, the ones without are left out and a note says so; give all or none.
- Some universities compute CGPA from every course’s grade points and credits directly rather than from the SGPAs. That gives the same answer when the SGPAs are unrounded, and can differ in the second decimal when they were rounded. Your final grade card is authoritative.
- The SGPA needed is rounded half up; aim a little above it.
- Everything is calculated in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere or kept after you leave the page.
Questions
Is CGPA just the average of my SGPAs?
Only when every semester has the same credits. Otherwise it is the credit-weighted average, which this calculator uses whenever you enter credits.
Where do I find semester credits?
On each semester’s grade card, usually as “credits registered” or “credits earned”, or in your programme’s scheme of study.
Can my CGPA go up by a lot in one semester?
The more credits already behind you, the less one semester moves it. The target feature shows exactly what a semester can do.
How do I convert my CGPA to a percentage?
Use the CGPA to percentage converter with your university’s formula; there is no single national rule.
