Attendance Calculator

Work out your attendance percentage, how many classes in a row you must attend to reach 75% (or any target), and how many you can miss and stay above it.

Attendance

Attendance70%42 of 60 classes

Attend the next 12 classes in a row to reach 75%.

  • Percentage = attended ÷ held × 100, rounded half up to two decimals. The counts below are worked out exactly, so they never fall short by a rounding.

Classes

75% is the usual minimum in Indian universities; check your institution’s rules.
How is this calculated?
Attendance % = attended ÷ held × 100. Classes to attend = ⌈(target × held − attended) ÷ (1 − target)⌉. Classes you can miss = ⌊(attended − target × held) ÷ target⌋.

About this tool

What it does

Attendance Calculator tells you where your attendance stands and what to do about it. Enter the number of classes held so far and the number you attended, and it shows your percentage. Then it answers the two questions that matter before an exam: if you are below the required attendance, how many classes in a row you must attend to get back up to it; and if you are above it, how many you can miss in a row and still be at or above it. The usual minimum in Indian colleges and universities is 75%, which is the default, but you can enter any target, including one with decimals. The counts are worked out exactly in whole numbers rather than from a rounded percentage, so “attend 7 more” really does reach the target and “miss 3” really does keep you there. Each answer assumes every following class counts the same, one class each.

How to use it
  1. Enter the classes held so far.
  2. Enter the classes you attended.
  3. Set the required attendance, 75% by default.
  4. Read your percentage and how many classes to attend, or how many you can miss.
Limits and your data
  • Practicals, labs and tutorials are often counted separately or weighted differently; calculate each separately if your college does.
  • Medical and duty leave, condonation and shortage rules differ by institution and are not modelled.
  • A 100% target cannot be reached again once a class has been missed, and the calculator says so.
  • Everything is calculated in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

With 42 of 60 you need 12 more in a row: 54 of 72 is exactly 75%.

How many classes can I miss and stay above 75%?

With 54 of 60 (90%) you can miss the next 12: 54 of 72 is still 75%.

Is 75% attendance compulsory?

Most Indian universities require 75% to sit the end-semester exam, with limited condonation. Your institution’s regulations decide.
